READINESS SIGNS
Is my child ready for potty training?
Every child is different, and there is no single right age to start. Most children show signs of readiness somewhere between 18 months and 2.5 years, but this can vary from child to child.
Signs that your child might be ready include:
Showing an interest in the toilet or potty
Staying dry for longer stretches during the day (1–2 hours)
Being able to communicate that they need to go, even through gestures or simple words
Pulling at their nappy when it is wet or dirty
Being able to follow simple instructions
If you are not sure whether your child is ready, or you have started and hit a wall, our consultants can help you work out the best approach for your child's individual stage.
GETTING STARTED
How to start potty training
Knowing where to begin is often the hardest part. There is a lot of conflicting advice online, and guidance on toilet training has evolved — what worked a generation ago is not always what the latest evidence recommends.
Our consultants stay up to date with current best practice so that the support you receive reflects what actually works, not outdated methods or one-size-fits-all approaches.
Whether you are just getting started, feeling stuck partway through, or looking for a plan that fits your child and your family, we are here to help.
COMMON CHALLENGES
Common challenges we help with

Getting started
Where to begin and how to introduce the idea in a way that feels natural
Potty training regression
When a child who was previously trained starts having accidents again
Refusal to use the toilet
When children resist or refuse outright
Withholding
When children withhold poo or wee
Night time dryness
Supporting the transition out of night nappies or pull-ups
Late potty training
Supporting older children who are taking longer

Regression is very common and can be triggered by illness or changes such as a new sibling, starting nursery, moving house, or any disruption to routine. It does not mean you are back to square one.
