DEFINE GENERAL?

What does a general consultation cover?

Sometimes the thing you want to talk through does not fit neatly into a single category. It is not purely about sleep, or purely about behaviour, it is about the whole picture of your family, your child, and how you are navigating this particular moment in parenthood.

The general parenting consultation is for exactly that. It is a flexible, open conversation with an experienced consultant who can help you think through whatever is on your mind, whether that is a specific challenge, a transition your family is going through, or simply a feeling that you could do with an independent, knowledgeable perspective.

Topics that commonly come up in general consultations include:

·       Developmental milestones: understanding what's typical for your child's age

·       Fussy eating: food refusal and mealtime battles

·       Screen time: technology boundaries and managing screen time battles

·       Independence and resilience: helping your child build confidence and coping skills

·       Sibling rivalry: conflict between children of different ages

·       Parenting confidence: for when you feel like you're getting it wrong

·       Consistency across carers: co-parents, separated parents, or extended family

·       Developmental concerns: understanding what's typical, and when to seek a specialist referral

If you are not sure whether your concern fits here or under one of our specialist consultations, the Discovery Call is the right place to start, it is free, and it will help us point you in the right direction.

GETTING STARTED

Is this the right fit for you?

This consultation is for any parent who wants a knowledgeable, impartial perspective, at any stage, for any reason.

You do not need to be in crisis. You do not need a diagnosis, a referral, or a problem that feels serious enough to justify it. Many parents use general consultations as a proactive check-in, a chance to talk through what is happening with someone who understands child development and can offer practical, evidence-based guidance without judgement.

It takes a village to raise a child. Sometimes what you need most is simply someone experienced in your corner, someone to think things through with, help you trust your instincts, and remind you that you are doing better than you think.

LIFE STAGES AND TRANSITIONS

Some of the most common triggers for seeking parenting support are the big transitions, the moments when something changes in your family's life and the strategies that were working before suddenly do not seem to fit any more. We support families navigating:

Common transitions we support families through

Welcoming a new baby

A new sibling changes everything for the child who was there first. Managing the adjustment, supporting an older child through the transition, and finding a new rhythm as a family of a different size are all things we can help with.

Starting nursery or school

The start of nursery or school is a significant milestone, and for some children and families, it is harder than expected. Separation anxiety, behavious changes, and adjusting to new routines are all common challenges we can help you navigate.

Family changes

Separation, divorce, introducing a new partner, moving house, or blending families, any significant change to family structure can affect children in ways that are not always easy to predict or manage. A consultation provides a space to think through how to support your child through change.

Bereavement

Supporting a child through loss, whether that is the death of a grandparant, a pet, or another significant person, requires a different kind of conversation. We can help you find age-appropriate ways to talk about loss and support your child through grief.

Moving house or school

Changes to environment and routine can unsettle even the most adaptable children. If a move is making life more difficult at home, a consultation can help you understand why and support the transition.

Returning to work.

Adjusting childcare, routines, and your own headspace after parental leave is a transition in itself, for you as much as your child.

OUR APPROACH

How a general consultation works

1 – We get to know your situation

Your consultant takes the time to understand your child, your family, and whatever's on your mind, whether that's one specific issue or several things at once.

2 – We work through it together

Together you'll explore what's going on and why, and talk through practical options and strategies that fit your child, your family, and the situation you're navigating.

3 – You leave with a plan

Depending on the package you choose, your consultation may include a bespoke written plan, or a follow-up call to check in on progress.

All consultations take place via Zoom and are tailored entirely to your situation.
