Is your little one ready to drop a nap?

Looking at our little one’s naps can be a huge focus for the first few years, from things such as ‘are their naps too short?’, ‘too long?’, ‘are they napping too much or not enough?’ – it can be all consuming. We then finally feel that we have got the nap timings nailed and it is all going well, and then we start to notice that things are changing again. This is when we have to prepare for what is often referred to as a ‘nap transition’ so this might be going from 3 naps per day down to 2, 2 naps to 1 and then (sadly!) the day when it goes from 1 nap to no nap!

Using white noise for your little one’s sleep

The pandemic has been difficult for everyone but teenagers have been really hard hit - at a crucial time in their development they have been isolated from friends and missed out on face to face education. In addition to that, some interesting research from Dreams has found that 68% of teenagers have struggled with poorer sleep health since the start of the pandemic. Dreams spoke to 2,000 teenagers aged 13 - 17.

Moving your child from their cot to a bed

Written by Claire Burgess, Family Consultant. The transition from cot to bed can happen anywhere between the ages of 18 months and 3 years old. My advice would always be that the closer you can get to 3 years old the better! Being closer to 3 they are more developmentally ready for this change and will have a greater understanding of the concept of being in a bed. By doing the transition at this stage it will usually go much more smoothly than doing it when they are very little.

Swaddling your baby

Why should I swaddle my baby?

Swaddling is commonly used with the newborns for the first 3-4 months to help them with the transition from the womb, where they are lovely and cosy, to the big wide world which can make them feel quite vulnerable. The act of swaddling is thousands of years old and it is practiced with newborns becuase it helps to make them feel secure and contained, and helps to prevent them from waking up due to the startle (or Moro) reflex which is when their arms just fly up!
